Once at Broadway In Bryant Park

WARNING:
You will fall slowly for Jessie Fisher and Ben Hope if you haven't yet; and you won't be able to go back.

Once.
One word.
Many emotions.

A hit for anyone with a soft side, this show warms your heart and reminds you of how much music affects everything.

Set in Dublin, we meet Guy, a vacuum repair guy. A musician at heart who has begun to give up on music. Insert Girl. Faith restored in a beautiful way.

A subject most teenagers fall into, they become one another's muse while falling slowly for one another.

Small problem? She's still married.

My favorite thing about the show though, most definitely, is the ensemble involvement. Being involved with such a beautiful ensemble on a regular basis (Fordham Prep Drama Society,) I find it really simple to just completely love the ensemble.
The show is one, giant, music-making machine that doesn't have any bad parts.

Lacking complete extravagance, it's a beauty all in its own that could make it more elaborate than Wicked, if only because there is NO SHOW I have ever seen like this.

It will restore your faith, just as it does for Guy, and it will remind you that love does exist. Every song is relatable.
I'm going to point out one song specifically, Leave. It comes before Falling Slowly, no worries. We have all understood the pain behind those words, but the haunting guitar chords that accompany it, make it ONE OF the most memorable songs on the soundtrack. (Though I could say that about every song in the entire show.)

We sat down and spoke to Ben Hope and Jessie Fisher.

Let me just say.

The inter-cast chemistry.

Is.

Simply.

Beautiful.

PRTC: Describe the show in one word.
Jessie Fisher: [Gasp and laughter] In one word!
Ben Hope: Oh, sh*t. [Covers mouth] I'm already cursing and we've said one thing. [Pause] Sh*t is not my answer!
Jessie Fisher: [Laughter] It's about love. Love.
Ben Hope: Music.
PRTC: Describe your character in one word.

Jessie Fisher: Serious...ly funny. [Laughter]
Ben Hope: [Catches Jessie's eye and bursts into laughter. Points at her] Cheater! [Laughter] Uh.... Stopped.
PRTC: Describe your overall experience working on the show in one word.
Jessie Fisher: Amazing!
Ben Hope: Life-changing.
PRTC: What is your favorite scene in the show?
Jessie Fisher: I like the scene on the-
Ben Hope: Oh yeah, on the hill.
PRTC: What has been your favorite memory since joining the cast?
Ben Hope: Oh I have a good one actually!
Jessie Fisher: Go ahead
Ben Hope: Last Sunday, we did the show together, and it was like my favorite show that I've ever done. That one single moment is my favorite memory.
Jessie Fisher: [Smiling] That's my favorite too.
Ben Hope: [Laughs and playfully pushes Jessie. The two laugh.] Fair enough.
PRTC: If you can, describe one another in one word. [I omit typing the cuteness that came before this cuteness. You can see it in the video]
Jessie Fisher: You're my best friend!
Ben Hope: Yeah, totally! Bestie.
Jessie Fisher: Bestie?
Ben Hope: Totally [Laughter]
PRTC: What do you think is the best thing about the show?
Jessie Fisher: It doesn't have to be in one word?
Ben Hope: Okay, sweet. [Laughter]
Jessie Fisher: There's no musical like this on Broadway. It's simple and honest and heartfelt. The music's amazing. Everyone plays their own instruments. There's nothing like this show.
Ben Hope: Yeah! If I was going to do it in one word, I would say ensemble... It's just the energy... It's been really good and all those people in there are making some serious magic.

PRTC: There is no known name for Guy and Girl. I think that really keeps the magic going. (And not in a Johanna doesn't know Antony's name way.) After a small bit of discussion with our videographer (Kelly Price) we got to the next question for all of you. What do they want future audiences to know?
Jessie Fisher: This show is going to be running all over the world. It's gonna be in Australia, Korea, Brazil, Canada... They're hoping to add France and Amsterdam. So there's something special about that. It's a world show. It speaks to everybody
Ben Hope: Yeah, it does.
